GreenPower Commercial Contactors with Auxiliary Power reliably and safely control lighting kits using a timer that is built onto the unit. Every socket on the contactor is switchable individually, in case you need to turn off some lights for some reason. There are many features that make GreenPower contactors one of the safest options you can get. The body is made of steel and uses a galvanized wall mountable back plate for strength and protection. It uses thick, rubberized cables that eliminate the risk of light degradation. Commercial units are stronger still, with circuit breakers and time delays to protect ballasts in case of power outages.
GreenPower Commercial Contactors with Auxiliary power are made for the larger scale grower that uses a lot of lights. As well as all the safety features of the Pro unit, they also send power to ballasts bank by bank to avoid big power surges. The auxiliary sockets do run off of the timer and are ideal if you want to run something 24 hours, such as fans or heaters. Please note: the Commercial contactors must be hard wired by a qualified electrician; they don’t just plug in!

Why do growers use a Contactor? Most of them cannot be around reliably to switch the lights on and off and need a contactor to do it for them. It is ideal as it come on and goes off at the same time each day, allowing the plant to fall into rhythm with this schedule. If the grower only used a plug in timer, it is highly likely the start up spike in electricity would burn out the timer, making the light stay on or off until manually changed. The contactor takes that start up spike through other components and bypasses the timer, therefore protecting it. Auxiliary sockets don’t use the timer and are on or off depending on the switch.
