The Small High Dome Propagator is the perfect product if you have a few cuttings or seedlings on the go. By being small in size, it is easier to keep the humidity up than if there were a few plants in an XL propagator, for example. It has a single vent on the top to allow for greater control over the humidity inside. The Small High Dome Propagator doesn’t have its own heat source, so it is best somewhere already warm. A small tent with a low wattage light is usually fine, but in the colder months you may want to consider a heat mat. These simple to use products sit under the propagator and gently warm it which also helps raise humidity. 23cm x 17cm x 18cm (tall)
Can I just put cuttings under a light? Do I need an Small High Dome Propagator?
When plants are very young, they need 100% humidity to stay healthy. The reason being the plant cannot draw up enough water to balance that which is lost through the leaves. This is especially true for cuttings that start off with no roots at all. Until they develop, they are reliant on an optimum environment to survive. Left in the open, they will quickly dry out due to the large volume of drier air robbing the plant of moisture. Keeping plants in a low volume incubator ensures they stay happy and healthy at this critical time of life. When you see water running down the inside of the propagator lid, don’t lift it and shake it off. This is what is keeping the environment just right for your young plants.
