The Soil Test kit contains four different tests that allow to check important parameters in your soil. With it, you can test for levels of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus as well as the pH level. These elements are of critical importance to plants as they form the 3 macro elements plants need for healthy growth. Plants use large amounts of them for a wide range of processes and a deficiency can be very damaging. By ensuring the pH is correct, you are helping the plant draw as much of these and other nutrient as it can. The Soil Test Kit has enough chemicals to carry out about 50 tests and contains a unique filter device for quick results.
Nitrogen is essential for vegetative growth – so it’s important for leafy plants and grass. The correct amounts allow healthy growth – too much and the plant structure will be damaged. Phosphorus is an important nutrient required by plants for healthy root growth – making it very important for root vegetables. Phosphorous helps in the formation of buds and healthy stems. A lack of phosphorous will stunt plant growth. Potassium is important for the development of flowers and shrubs. The correct levels of potassium ensure flowers become more fragrant and have improved colour. In vegetable crops potassium helps to produce a netter quality crop and helps to make plants more resistant to disease.
Alternatives to the Soil Test Kit
At Straight Up Hydroponics, we have a few other products for testing the pH, but no others for checking NPK. We do, however have a range of elemental additives from RAW and Canna that will raise levels in the nutrient if you have a deficiency. All of these are on our website in the Additives section and you can go there be following this link.
